This weekend, more than 150 000 festivalgoers will invade Paris’ Bois de Boulogne to take part in 3 days of music, sun and exhibitions at the Solidays festival, organized by Solidarité Sida. This year, they will also find the AAD comic book The Diamonds of Kamitua, currently being distributed in South Kivu (DRC).
Organized to spread HIV awareness messages and to fundraise for a variety of organizations committed to fighting AIDS the world over, Solidays gives space to over 100 such groups to present themselves to the public. The 13th edition of this festival will present the work of the organization SOS-Sida in Bukavu (Democratic Republic of Congo), an AAD partner, and the comic book they are distributing as part of the project “Bukavu Speech Bubbles”.
The Diamonds of Kamituga is a comic book written and illustrated by the Congolese artist Séraphin Kajibwami containing AIDS awareness messages et currently being distributed to the tune of 100 000 copies, making it the most widely disseminated French language comic in all Sub-Saharan Africa. In South Kivu, where literature of any kind is extremely rare, a comic book is an extremely sought after product, making Diamonds a tool promoting both HIV awareness and literacy.
All profits from the sale of the comic, found at the SOS-Sida stand and available for purchase on the internet (www.lesdiamantsdekamituga.com), go straight to the Congolese organization itself to aid in their combat against AIDS.
