Lumières d’Afriques – Dakar

Senegal

The “Lumières d’Afriques” exhibition was shown in Paris, France, at the Théâtre national de Chaillot in 2015, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in 2016, then in Dakar at the Institut fondamental d’Afrique noire in 2017 before it went back to Switzerland at the Palais des nations, then in Addis Ababa at the premises of African Union and finally in Darmstadt, Germany, in partnership with EUMETSAT.
 
This exhibition was initiated by African Artists for Development fund and has been presented to the Institut fondamental d’Afrique noire Cheikh Anta Diop from 14th January to 20th February 2017.
 

This second presentation of “Lumières d’Afriques” on the African continent, the place of artworks creation, as well as the exceptional collaboration between partners and African Artists for Development highlight once again the AAD commitment for this continent.

 
This exhibition has been inaugurated under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and the Development of Renewable Energies Mr. Thierno Alassane SALL and the Minister of Culture and Communication Mr. Mbagnick Ndiaye.
This exhibition gathers 54 artworks – paintings, photographes, artistic installations, videos, sculptures – created by 54 contemporary African artists – one per country – with the common theme “Lights of Africa”.
Many events have been planned in connection with this show, including the welcome of pupils and students and their participation to an educational project surrounding this exhibition.

Created in 1936, the IFAN’s (Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire Cheikh Anta Diop) mission is to study and promote the sub-Saharan African culture.
