The comic book “The Diamond of Kamituga” has finally been released in France! On Thursday the 27th of November 2014 a launch party is organised at the “Librairie-Galerie Congo”, in Paris. For the occasion a round table on the topic “Can artistic creation be at the service of development?” will take place with Matthias Leridon, AAD’s co-president, Hobopok, artistic director of the collection of African comics books “L’Harmattan BD” and Viviana Quinones, of the National Literature Centre for children.

This volume is composed of the two books and a central section with information on the DRC, its cities and its culture. All profits will be redistributed to SOS Sida.

The release of the comic book in France follows the successful launch of the second volume in the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 9. Matthias Leridon went to Bukavu, capital of South Kivu, to attend the ceremonies in honour of the comic book. The distribution of “The Diamonds of Kamituga” began after a concert of the orchestra Atomic Ebende and a cocktail attended by the Minister of Health of South Kivu.

The volume 2 was eagerly awaited and 150,000 copies were freely distributed, representing the largest circulation of a comic book on the African continent.

“The Diamonds Kamituga” is an original and effective tool for HIV/AIDS prevention. The distribution of the first volume in 2012 in the South Kivu region had a very positive impact: more than 500,000 readers were directly informed about issues related to HIV / AIDS and screening tests performedby SOS Sida, AAD’s local partner, have increased by 40%.
