After a brief slow-down due to the tensions that followed DRC’s last presidential elections, the distribution of the comic-book “Les diamants de Kamituga” has taken back its full pace : SOS-SIDA teams are now spreading them across Bukavu, from sport events to school classes.

Introducing HIV/AIDS prevention messages through a true narrative that alternate love, humor and adventure, the comic-book is encountering a great success among its first readers. Recently visiting four schools of a popular district of Bukavu, Gratien Chibungiri, the SOS-SIDA Bukavu association coordinator, gave each pupil a copy. Chibungiri is currently handling the whole distribution and contacting local schools headmasters in order to reach the maximum until June.

This task requires an efficient stock management and a solid mobilization from SOS-SIDA, especially as requests for more copies are pouring in. The whole team is putting an incredible energy in this giant operation: all in all they will have handed out 100,000 copies of “Les diamants de Kamituga”, which accounts for the greatest printing and free distribution of a comic-book in Sub-Suharan Africa ever!

The work they are accomplishing is already fulfilling its pursued effects: according to Chibungiri, up to three times more people are showing up to get tested at the SOS-SIDA Center. Such a rapid outcome is very encouraging for SOS-SIDA everyday action, and proves the efficiency of HIV prevention, be it though this highly unusual and original mean: a comic-book.
