Gervanne Leridon, co-president of African Artists for Development (AAD), announces progress in AAD’s Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action: Refugees on the Move during the CGI 2015 Annual Meeting in New York last September.
Refugees on the Move is one of AAD’s main programs that uses dance to reduce violence and restore self-esteem in refugee camps. The program has already been a success in several countries: Chad, the Central African Republic, Burundi, and Burkina Faso.
The last sessions took an end in August 2015 in Burikna Faso in Mentao refugee camp. Salia Sanou, a contemporary dancer from Burkina Faso, led the workshops with a team of dancers from CDC La Termitière, over two months.
The program that was once again a huge success might be replicated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo next year.
